More than 90 junior players from across Sarawak participated in the OCI-Sarawak Closed Junior Pickleball Tournament 2026 today.
Organised in collaboration with the Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA), the tournament provided a competitive platform for junior players to develop their skills, gain tournament experience and grow their potential in one of the region’s fastest-growing sports. The tournament was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian and attended by OCI Holdings Chairman and OCI TerraSus Chief Executive Officer Lee Woo Hyun, representatives of the Sarawak and Kuching pickleball associations, coaches, parents and members of the pickleball community. In his speech, Lee said the tournament marked the first step in OCI TerraSus’ longer-term ambition to support junior pickleball development in Sarawak. “This is only our first step. Our long-term plan is to start the OCI-Sarawak Junior Pickleball Development Programme,” Lee said. He added that OCI TerraSus hopes to work with the Sarawak Government, sporting bodies and the pickleball community to provide the coaching, facilities and opportunities needed to develop young players. “Our goal is simple, that one day, Sarawak will have players of world-class standard. If possible, a world champion,” he said. Dr. Sim highlighted the importance of providing sustained opportunities for young athletes to train, compete and gain experience, while commending OCI TerraSus for supporting junior development. “Today is not only about finding the champions of this tournament. It is about developing the champions of tomorrow,” Dr. Sim said. The tournament forms part of OCI TerraSus’ broader support for pickleball development in Sarawak. The company is also supporting the 2nd Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT) 2026, scheduled to take place in Kuching from 8 to 11 October 2026. Through these initiatives, OCI TerraSus aims to create opportunities for young Sarawakians and work with local partners to nurture the next generation of sporting talent.
