OCI TerraSus has been announced as the exclusive main sponsor for the 2nd Borneo Pickleball International Tournament 2026 (BPIT2026) – Powered by OCI TerraSus, which will be held at PIKABOL Malaysia, Kuching, from 7 to 12 October 2026.
First introduced in 2024, the biennial tournament has quickly established itself as one of Borneo's premier pickleball events. This year's edition offers a total prize pool of RM80,000, making it one of the largest pickleball tournaments in the region. The tournament is expected to attract more than 500 players and 1,500 spectators from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, including Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Taiwan and the Philippines. The tournament will feature both team and individual competitions involving some of the region's top pickleball players. OCI TerraSus Principal Director of HR and Sustainability Division, Dr Kim Soo Yeon said the company is proud to support the tournament as its exclusive strategic main sponsor. "At OCI TerraSus, we believe transformation begins with people. As our company grows beyond our traditional polysilicon business into advanced materials and new technologies, we are equally committed to developing our people, strengthening teamwork and building meaningful partnerships with the communities where we operate. "Supporting this tournament reflects our belief that sport brings people together, promotes healthy lifestyles and inspires the resilience, discipline and collaboration that are central to our One TerraSus Transformation 2030. "Through initiatives like this, we hope to create lasting value not only for our employees and business partners, but also for the communities and future generations we proudly serve." In line with its commitment to youth development, OCI TerraSus has also sponsored the inaugural OCI–Sarawak Closed Junior Pickleball Tournament 2026, which will be held from 26 to 27 September 2026. The annual tournament, organised in partnership with the Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA), aims to provide young players with greater opportunities to develop their skills and competitive experience. "We are grateful that the Kuching Pickleball Association embraced the idea and partnered with us to make this first-of-its-kind annual tournament a reality. "We hope this initiative will encourage more young people to take up the sport, develop their skills and confidence, and pursue excellence in pickleball." Dr Kim added that through both sponsorships, OCI TerraSus hopes to contribute meaningfully to the growth of pickleball in Sarawak while inspiring future generations of athletes. "Above all, we hope these initiatives will inspire and nurture the next generation of pickleball talent and, one day, produce a world champion from Sarawak." "What began as a relatively new sport has evolved into a vibrant and inclusive community that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. "The Sarawak Government welcomes initiatives such as BPIT2026 – Powered by OCI TerraSus, as they contribute to the long-term development of the sport by creating opportunities for participation, talent development, event hosting and sports tourism. "With the continued support of associations, clubs, venue operators and industry partners, I am confident that Sarawak has the potential to become one of Southeast Asia's leading pickleball destinations, capable of hosting world-class tournaments while nurturing the next generation of sporting talent. "Today, Sarawak is home to some of the country's most active pickleball communities, supported by quality facilities, dedicated clubs, committed volunteers and strong public-private partnerships. "This growth reflects the increasing demand for accessible, community-based sports that promote healthy lifestyles and social interaction." Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA) President and Organising Chairman Ruslan Bujang said BPIT2026 continues to strengthen ties among pickleball communities across Borneo and beyond. "This tournament is more than just a competition. It is a platform that brings clubs, players and communities together through sport while strengthening friendships, collaboration and the continued growth of the pickleball community." Ruslan also announced the launch of the ROAD to BPIT2026 – Powered by OCI TerraSus campaign, which will officially begin on 4 July 2026 in conjunction with Ngiling Bidai Bersama Komuniti 2026, organised by PIKABOL Malaysia. "Through this campaign, we will work with more than 15 registered pickleball clubs, together with several social clubs and community organisations, to build excitement and momentum leading up to BPIT2026. We want the entire pickleball community to be part of this journey."
