Believing that science, technology, engineering and mathematics education is key to developing the next generation of innovators, problem solvers and future leaders, OCI TerraSus has come on board as the Location Sponsor for the Sarawak Space Challenge (SSC) this year in Bintulu.

The sponsorship reflects our commitment to supporting education, nurturing young talent and contributing to Sarawak's growing innovation ecosystem. Now in its fifth edition, SSC 2026 will further expand its statewide reach with the introduction of Bintulu as a new physical hackathon venue, alongside an extensive programme of 50 school roadshows designed to inspire more students to pursue science, technology and innovation. The official launch was held on Wednesday at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and was officiated by Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn. OCI TerraSus was represented by Principal Director of HR and Sustainability Division, Dr Kim Sooyeon, reaffirming our support for initiatives that cultivate future-ready talent. The 2026 Sarawak Space Challenge will take place on 14 and 15 November, with participants competing simultaneously at four physical venues in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and for the first time, Bintulu. Participants will benefit from world-class facilities, mentorship from industry experts and direct feedback from judges, while collaborating with peers throughout the 48-hour hackathon to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges. SSC serves as Sarawak's local hub for the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, the world's largest global hackathon that encourages participants to solve real-world problems using NASA's open-source data. Organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), in collaboration with Realfun Academy and SOL Digital as local delivery partners, the programme is open to Sarawakians aged 13 and above, with no prior coding experience required. Outstanding local teams may also earn the opportunity to compete on the global stage. Since its inception in 2021, the SSC has engaged more than 18,000 participants across the state. This year's edition is expected to attract an additional 6,500 participants, underscoring its growing impact in cultivating interest in STEM education and innovation among Sarawak's youth.
