It also undertook to foster a strong understanding of environmental issues and to inspire community actions while cultivating a generation of environmentally conscious leaders equipped with knowledge and skills to promote sustainable practices. Officers from Natural Resources Environmental Board (NREB) and OCI M conducted briefings to the participants where they gained experience of practical environmental protection methods such as recycling and reusing while experiencing the value of collaborating with one another to achieve better outcomes in sustainability efforts. During the symposium, OCI M also officiated its completed solar school project for Girl Guides Association of Malaysia Sarawak branch premises where it is installed with solar power generation system. This project is part of OCI M’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, started in December 2023, which has so far benefited three other premises. The three premises are Perkata Special School, completed in December 2023, Riam Road Secondary School in Miri in March this year, and SK Kampung Seberang in Lawas in September this year. This CSR project has been carried out by OCI Holdings, the holding company which wholly owns OCI M since 2013, which has so far involved 1,000 schools in South Korea before it is expanded here and adopted by OCI M. Present during the symposium was OCI M’s senior director and head of sustainability division Dr Kim SooYeon and Girl Guides Association of Malaysia Sarawak branch vice president Annie Sim.
